NATO
North Atlantic Treaty Organisation - an alliance of twenty-six countries in Europe and North America, including the United Kingdom. NATO was established in 1949 with the purpose of safeguarding the freedom and security of all its members by political and military means. Current member states are: the United Kingdom, Belgium, Bulgaria, Canada, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxemburg, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Turkey and the United States.
